After a long drawn battle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Udta Punjab finally released in theatres this Friday and as we predicted it had a fabulous opening. The movie that revolves around Punjab’s drug abuse delighted movie goers to such an extent that we didn’t come across even a single adverse reaction.
The film had an average occupancy of 30-40 per cent in the morning shows and it grew in the evening shows to give the film an opening day collection of Rs 10.05 crore. This is a fabulous number, considering the fact that the film was embroiled in a huge controversy and the censor copy was leaked 2 days prior to the release. But it seems that the controversy has helped the film and the leak has had no effect on the film.
