STORY : The story of "Udta Punjab" is about four characters - a Punjabi rock star Tommy Singh (Shahid Kapoor), a migrant labourer Kumari Pinky (Alia Bhatt), a doctor Preet (Kareena Kapoor) and a policeman Sartaj (Diljit Dosanjh). All these four lives have one connection. The characters from different walks of life are fighting the menace of drugs in Punjab in their own way.

REVIEW:  Punjab the land of the five rivers, is a depiction only reserved for the text-books but in reality, it's a place besieged by cocaine, cartels and corrupt cops.

The film starts with a discus thrower from across the border flinging a packet into a forest in Punjab at night. The pink powder lands in the lap of the Bihari hockey player who works in the fields. And so begins her tryst with the contraband.

Tommy Singh (Shahid Kapoor) is an accidental rock star and a full-time user. He rhymes coke and cock, making a song out of it.

There is an Inspector Sartaj and his superior (Manav Vij) who have no fears about taking blood money. Sartaj's conscience only stirs when he realises his younger brother, Prabhjyot Singh (Balli) is a victim.

Dr Preet Sahni (Kareena Kapoor Khan), who runs a rehab clinic, turn into the other strong salutary influence on Sartaj, and the film takes an about-turn.

The film is sometimes too indulgent and slothful. Director Abhishek Chaubey has done a brilliant work in scripting the film, and has a marvelous grip over the narration of the story. He describes a serious issue in an entertaining way. Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh have delivered brilliant performances.
